Akai Ito/Threads Of Destiny

Summary:

Akai Ito is an movie coming out in December of 2008. It’s based on a popular mobile phone novel written by Mei and its plot will continue a story started and ended on a Fuji TV drama which is scheduled to air at around the same time.

Mei has been in love with Yuya all her life. They’ve grown up together. But when they reach their second year of middle school, Yuya suddenly professes his love for her older sister, Haruna.

Struggling to rebound from her decade-long crush, Mei finds comfort in the close camaraderie of her school friends, Taka, Mia, Yuri, Natsu, Mitsu and Sara and then meets a reticent and gentle-natured boy named Atsushi. The two begin to realize that they share many things in common that seem to transcend mere coincidence: the same birthday (February 29th, 1992) and a previous encounter when they were both 8. Feeling a bond of fate, they grow closer.

But destiny can have a dark side to it, too, and a shocking revelation from both of their pasts compels Atsushi to pull away from Mei. The devastating separation then unleashes a wave of misfortune upon Mei: the death of a loved one, drug addiction and domestic violence. As circumstances seek to take control of her life, Mei struggles to maintain her faith in the tenuous thread of destiny that will reunite her with her true love.

Review on “Shindo” (JMovie)

Shindo

Director: Koji Hagiuda Running time: 120 Min Release year: 2007 Cast: Riko Narumi, Ken’ichi Matsuyama, Satomi Tezuka, Masahiro Komoto, Hidetoshi Nishijima, Shihori Kanjiya

I’ve watched this movie a while ago, with English subs, in my Japanese class. A few days ago I came across it at a Japanese supermarket, and decided to buy it because it is one of those typical Japanese movies with a slow-paced story and mysterious ending, but able to catch your heart altogether, and I just wanted to own this one.

Apparently, this story is based on a manga by Akira Saso. I’ve never heard of the manga, so I can’t compare it.
The story is about Uta (Narumi Riko), who meets Wao (Kenichi Matsuyama) by chance, and the two develop a quite unusual friendship. This age-inappropriate friendship, along with the love for playing the piano, is the red thread through the entire movie.

Uta is a young girl (13 I believe?) who is a prodigy in playing the piano since a very young age, the love for piano music taught by her (dissappeared) pianist father. However, she is left all alone now, or feels alone, with her upsetting mother who seems to only want to make Uta play the piano so she could win contests and earn money to maintain the household. She doesn’t share the love at all that Uta had with her father for being a pianist.

Wao on the other hand, is not such a promising student Continue reading
